FAQs

Q: What does a steward/unit steward/president/vice-president/treasurer/secretary/trustee do?
A: See this hand-out from OPSEU on Local Officer Roles and Responsibilities. Please note: in Local 586, instead of  a "Chief Steward" we have Unit Stewards in each of our offices.

Q: I want to run for election. How do I do that?
A: Fill out this form and give it to OPSEU Staff Representative Adrian Cadawallader at 12:00pm on the day of your unit election.

Q: I won't be in my office on the day of my unit election. Can I still run for a position?
A: Yes. As long as your completed nomination form is submitted to Adrian on time, you are eligible to stand as a candidate, even if you're not physically there during the election.

Q: I won't be in my office on the day of my unit election. Can I still vote?
A: No. Unfortunately, the OPSEU Constitution does not allow for proxy or absentee voting. To vote in your unit election you must be physically present during the voting period.

If you have any questions, please do not hestiate to contact us.

All Stewards - please post to union boards immediately. Thank you.

In Solidarity,
Your OPSEU L586 Executive
