OPSEU Local 586 meets several times a year with the Local Employee Relations Committee (LERC). This committee includes one Management representative from each office and one Union representative from each office. We discuss ongoing issues and co-operate on potential solutions. LERC meetings were suspended during bargaining but now that we have a collective agreement, they are beginning again. It has been a long time since we have met formally with the employer and we need your input to ensure that we are focusing on your priorities.
Please take the time to fill out this survey and spread the word to your colleagues!
The survey should take no more than 10 minutes. Your answers are anonymous – we have no way of knowing who has given which answers. In questions 2-5 we ask you to voluntarily select a work location, job title, years of work, and employment status so we can see if certain issues are affecting some offices or some categories of workers more than others.
The survey will close on Saturday, January 16 to give us time to review the results before the next LERC meeting.
Happy 2016! As we welcome the New Year, I want to take a moment to let you know how honored I am to take-on the role of acting President of OPSEU Local 586. You face challenging working conditions every day and 2015 was a particularly difficult year. I am proud that our local is there to ensure your rights are maintained while you work to serve Ontario's most vulnerable citizens.
I want to thank outgoing President Karl Laframboise. Karl has gone above and beyond to passionately serve this local and our members over the last 8 years. I am glad to say he will be remaining as a steward of the local, at least until our local elections are held in February.
I have a lot of hopes for our local in 2016, and with your help I know we can make them a reality.
To kick-it-off I have 3 announcements:
